Frequently Asked Questions
Where in the world can I intern?
You can join the banking revolution from our offices in Amsterdam and Istanbul.
How does the application process work?
Submit your application for the internship you think is a match. No CV needed! We designed our hiring process to understand who you are, how you solve problems, and what drives you, not just what’s on your CV. Explore our full hiring journey on our How We Hire page.
Do I have to be a university student to apply?
Not necessarily! What matters most is your commitment and passion. We also don’t have a fixed requirement such as being in your penultimate year of a bachelor’s or master’s degree. We typically look for interns who can join us full-time for about 6 months.
For our Amsterdam office, being enrolled in a university can sometimes help with the paperwork (like an official internship agreement). In Istanbul, if you're a non-Turkish student, enrollment in a university and a compulsory internship requirement is often a must-have.
What’s the time commitment?
Most of our internships are full-time for about 6 months. This gives you enough time to dive deep into a project and take real ownership. Some teams might have options for shorter or part-time internships, and if so, we'll make that clear during the hiring process.
For your first 3 months, we want you in the office with us full-time. It’s the best way to soak up the culture and learn directly from your team. After that, we usually switch to a hybrid model: 3 days in the office, 2 days from home (and yes, you decide which days).
Can I intern part-time?
We believe in going all-in, so the vast majority of our internships are a full-time commitment. It’s the best way for you to truly take ownership and make an impact. However, we get that life happens. Some roles might have the flexibility for a part-time schedule. If that's on the table, we'll make it clear during your interviews.
Do you pay your interns?
Yes! We’re not about that unpaid-internship-life. All our interns get monthly compensation. You do the work, you get the reward. Simple as that.
The nitty-gritty: how do internships work for the Istanbul office?
Here’s the lowdown for our Istanbul office:
If you're a Turkish citizen, you're all set and welcome to apply to any of our internship roles.
For non-Turkish citizens, the main requirement is that the internship must be a compulsory part of your Turkish university degree
And don't worry about the university paperwork! If your internship is a mandatory part of your degree, we’ll help you out with the requirements — whether that’s signing your internship notebook or other official documents.
The nitty-gritty: what about work permits & visas for Amsterdam?
To intern with us in Amsterdam, one of these generally needs to be true for you:
You're an EU/EEA citizen.
You already have a valid Dutch work permit, like an orientation year visa.
You're a student at a university that can support your internship. We can't sponsor a work visa from scratch for an internship, but we can often work with your school to get the official paperwork sorted (like a Nuffic agreement).
Bottom line: The main path for non-EU interns is through a university partnership. It's always a smart move to check your personal visa status before you apply, just to make sure you're all good to go.
What happens when the internship is over? Could this turn into a real job?
We love it when our interns stick around! Our goal is always to create opportunities for our strongest interns to grow into full-time bunqers. While we can't promise a full-time offer at the end, if you crush your internship and there’s a need in the team, we’ll definitely want to keep you.
Do I need a super impressive resume with prior work experience to get in?
Nope. While previous experience can be helpful, it’s not a deal-breaker. We’re more interested in your curiosity, problem-solving skills, and your ability to learn quickly.
The type of intern that thrives at bunq, is a go-getter. You’re not afraid to ask questions, take ownership, and get your hands dirty from day one. If you’re proactive, open to feedback, and comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment - you’ll fit right in 🚀
