At bunq, Eva trusts us with her money across 30+ countries — and that trust is only worth something if the legal framework behind it is airtight, proactive, and scales as fast as we do. We're hiring a Head of Trust & Transparency to own the pillar end-to-end: the strategy, the team, the AI-first operating model, and the accountability that makes all of it run without the Head of Legal in the loop every day.

This role is the missing layer between legal strategy and operational execution, and you're here to close that gap permanently. Here's what you'll be solving from day one:

  • Build the operating model that sets the Head of Legal free. Right now, strategic direction doesn't reliably reach the team, and operational signals don't reliably reach the top. You'll design and own the translation layer: quarterly priorities into team KPIs, weekly synthesis up, and clear escalation thresholds so the Head of Legal only sees decisions only she can make.

  • Scale T&T review capacity 5x without 5x headcount. The AI tooling exists — but it isn't systematised into a scalable operating model. You'll take ownership of existing AI tools for T&C review, contract review, and regulatory monitoring, and redesign them into end-to-end AI-first workflows with human sign-off at defined thresholds.

  • Own quality, not just velocity. KPIs tell you if work is on time — they don't tell you if it's good. You'll define what "good" looks like for each T&T ownership, build a quality review cadence, and give feedback that raises the bar without creating a second bottleneck.


This challenge is perfect for you if

  • You've independently managed a compliance or legal function spanning multiple jurisdictions and know what it takes to stay ahead of regulators, not just respond to them.

  • You have direct experience handling regulatory inquiries or supervisory dialogue, and can represent bunq's legal position with confidence.

  • You've managed a small specialist legal team, setting KPIs, running accountability cycles, and developing junior lawyers into strong independent owners.

  • You're comfortable challenging a Head of Legal with data, and can distil complex legal and regulatory risk into crisp, decision-ready executive reporting.

  • You think AI-first by default. You don't just use AI tools, you design systems around them, eliminate manual work at scale, and coach others to do the same. (We're looking for an AI Architect, not an AI user.)

  • You hold quality and velocity simultaneously. You know the difference between work that's done and work that's good, and you build the frameworks that make the distinction measurable.

  • You operate with the seniority and judgment to decide what gets automated, what stays human, and when a regulatory risk is worth escalating, without being told.
