Ready to get shit done?

bunq Tech powers bunq across the Netherlands, the UK, the US, and beyond. As we scale into a global multi-license structure, we need a CFO who can turn Tech into a disciplined, profitable, automation-first financial engine.

This is not a reporting role.
This is not a “manage finance from a distance” role.
This is not a role for someone who needs 6 months to understand the business.

We need someone who can walk in, understand the cost base, challenge engineering spend, build a SaaS-style financial model, create real-time visibility, and make capital allocation sharper from day one. You will own the financial model behind bunq Tech: pricing, transfer pricing, unit economics, cost control, reporting, automation, and investment decisions. The role is built around scaling bunq Tech as a global platform business with clear profitability, disciplined governance, and measurable ROI.

Take Ownership:

Architect bunq Tech’s financial operating model: define how Tech creates value, how costs are allocated, how teams are funded, and how decisions are made.

  • Build a SaaS-style financial model for bunq Tech, including unit economics, pricing logic, transfer pricing, internal charging, profitability, and ROI.

  • Use AI and automation to redesign finance workflows, removing manual reporting, repetitive analysis, chasing, and spreadsheet-heavy processes.

  • Map how work currently happens across Finance, Tech, Product, Engineering, and Operations, then identify where we can save time, reduce handovers, and improve ownership.

  • Build real-time visibility into Tech performance: cloud costs, engineering spend, vendor costs, delivery efficiency, product ROI, and profitability.

  • Challenge engineering, cloud, tooling, vendor, and product spend with data — not opinions.

  • Create a capital allocation framework that shows where bunq Tech should invest, where we should stop investing, and where we need sharper accountability.

  • Build automated dashboards and reporting workflows so leadership can make decisions without waiting for manual month-end reporting.

  • Design governance that scales across a multi-entity structure, including transfer pricing, intercompany logic, controls, reporting discipline, and regulatory separation.

  • Partner directly with CEO, CTO, Product, Engineering, Finance, and Operations to turn financial insight into action.

Hands-on examples of what you will need to do:

  • Take bunq Tech’s current cost base and turn it into a clear unit economics model: cost per product, feature, cloud unit, team, or service.

  • Build a simple but scalable internal SaaS charging model.

  • Review cloud, engineering, vendor, and tooling spend and identify where we can save 20% without slowing product delivery.

  • Use AI to analyse recurring finance tasks and propose which workflows should be automated, eliminated, or owned differently.

  • Map how monthly reporting currently works, then redesign it into an automated reporting flow using clean source data and dashboards.

  • Build a decision framework that helps leadership answer: “Should we fund this product/engineering investment or not?”
